Membership Procedure
To become a member of the Chartered Institute of Export and Commodity Brokers of Nigeria (CIECOBON), applicants must follow the process below:
Obtain the membership application form.
Complete the form and attach copies of relevant educational or professional certificates.
Submit the completed form to the Institute through any approved office or training center.
The Membership Committee reviews the application.
Successful applicants receive a Letter of Election indicating their membership grade and required fees.
Upon payment and documentation, the applicant receives an official Membership Certificate from the Institute.

Induction & Award Ceremony
Every year, CIECOBON formally inducts new members and presents professional certificates and diplomas to candidates who have completed their qualifying programmes — a landmark occasion in every member's career.
The Annual Induction & Award Ceremony
The ceremony is the official moment a candidate transitions from student or graduate to a formally recognised professional member of CIECOBON. Certificates and diplomas earned through the Institute's examination programmes are presented at this event — making it the culmination of months or years of dedicated study and practice.
Professional Certificate in Export Practice & Management
Awarded to candidates who have successfully completed all prescribed papers in the Foundation Level examination — Parts One and Two.
- Must pass all 14 Foundation Level subjects across Parts 1 & 2
- Qualifies the holder to proceed to Professional Level examinations
- Presented at the Annual Induction & Award Ceremony
- Recognised by CIECOBON Governing Council
Final Diploma in Export Practice & Management
Awarded to candidates who have successfully completed all Professional Level examinations — Levels One, Two, and Three — including the Research Project.
- Must complete all 21 Professional Level subjects across Levels 1–3
- Includes successful submission and defence of Research Project
- Qualifies holder for Graduate Membership (GECB)
- Presented at the Annual Induction & Award Ceremony

What happens after you complete your examinations
Pass Your Examinations
Complete the required Foundation or Professional Level papers. Results are published on the Institute's notice board.
Receive Result Notification
Each candidate is personally notified of their results by the Registrar. Successful candidates are flagged for ceremony invitation.
Pay Induction Fee
Pay the one-time Induction Fee of ₦25,000 to the Institute account at Fidelity Bank (A/C: 4010634436) and forward your teller.
Attend & Receive Award
Attend the Annual Induction & Award Ceremony where your certificate or diploma is formally presented by the Governing Council.
Who Is Eligible to Be Inducted?
Any candidate who has satisfied the Institute's examination or membership requirements for the following grades is eligible to be inducted at the ceremony:
Membership Grades & Designatory Letters
The Institute confers eight grades of membership — each with its own designatory letters, qualification requirements and privileges. All grades are awarded by the Governing Council.

Corporate Member
Institutional Grade
Conferred on registered companies, firms or corporations with at least two CIECOBON professional members in key management roles.
- Registered with Corporate Affairs Commission
- Minimum 2 professional CIECOBON members as directors or management
- Organises into Four Trade Groups & Professional Syndicates
Charter Member
Highest Individual Grade
Elected from practicing Fellow Members who have made outstanding contributions to the Institute or to Nigeria's export and commodity trade.
- Must be a practicing Fellow Member
- Significant years of experience
- Notable contribution to the Institute or national trade
Fellow Member
Senior Professional Grade
Registered by Council for members who hold a Master's degree, have published a thesis on export practice, and have been Full Members for at least 5 years.
- Master's Degree in related field
- Published thesis or dissertation
- Full Member for minimum 5 years
Full Member
Professional Grade
Awarded to members holding a Post-graduate Diploma in a relevant field, with at least 15 years in international trade and 5 years as an Associate Member.
- Post-graduate Diploma in related field
- 15 years in international or commodity trade
- Associate Member for minimum 5 years
Associate Member
Qualified Grade
For members who have passed the Professional Examinations and obtained the Final Diploma in Export Practice and Management, with at least 3 years practical experience.

- Final Diploma in Export Practice & Management
- Minimum 3 years practical experience
Graduate Member
Examination Grade
Registered upon completion of the Final Diploma Programme in Export Practice and Management or an approved Graduate Diploma in International Trade Management.
- Final Diploma in Export Practice & Management
- Or approved Graduate Diploma equivalent
- Eligible to upgrade to Associate after 2 years
Licentiate Member
Recognised Grade
For senior citizens honoured for contributions to export trade, holders of the Professional Certificate, or holders of an Advanced Diploma of less than 8 semesters.

- Advanced Diploma (less than 8 semesters)
- Senior citizens recognised for trade contributions
Student Member
Entry Level
Open to persons of minimum 21 years who satisfy the Institute's entry requirements. No designatory letters are awarded at this stage.
- Minimum age 21 years
- 5 credits in WAEC / NECO / SSCE including English & Maths
- No designatory letters at this grade
